The Maine Gun Safety Coalition Foundation and Falmouth Maine Police Department developed this user/parent friendly safe storage video. Our Pediatrician’s Program provides information for pediatric health care providers to use to talk to the parents and guardians of their patients about the importance and how to’s of safe gun storage.
We also provide free cable locks and educational materials that participating healthcare providers can distribute to their patients' families.
Maine has experienced several tragedies in Sagadahoc County and another in Franklin County where children have gained access to loaded guns that were not safely stored, resulting in firearm-related injuries and death.
4.6 million children live in homes with at least 1 loaded and unlocked firearm.
In Maine, as of 2021, 47% of adults own guns.
39% of parents erroneously believe their children do not know where their gun is stored, and 22% wrongly believe their child never handled their gun.
